This is one of the few movies I'm excited to see. One catch...my understanding is that only the DVD release will have the full version with animation sequence (which I'm guessing is the pirate comic parallel storyline) so I'm actually considering waiting until the DVD release.

I think the plan is to release the pirate DVD in conjunction with the theatrical release of the main film. It's likely that when the Watchmen DVD comes out, we'll have the option of a bare-bones, main feature-only version or another cut which includes the pirate stuff. It's been a long time since I've read the comic (yeah, that's right, I said comic, not graphic novel -- take that, Alan Moore), but I remember getting frustrated with the pirate bits interrupting the main, and for me the real, story.

I'm psyched to see this, too. I loved Snyder's Dawn of the Dead remake, and with 300, he managed to turn a comic I didn't care about into a very enjoyable flick. Hopefully, his lucky streak will hold.

I cannot wait for Watchmen. Anytime I here anything about it I crap my pants. I like the pirate storyline because it was cool to see it correlate with the actual goings on of the "graphic novel".

Not trying to be a jerk, but please read the rules. Must post 30 times before posting external links. It's like Halloween. You want to get to know the neighbors before sending your kids out to get poisoned apples. Or something like that. pumpkin.gif

Plus that site uses iframes which is a pet peeve of mine.

Here's the trailer.

Are Alan Moore's lawyers still trying to kill this thing (and set Deb off on a murderous rampage)?

(or the Fox/WB lawyers, I guess, arguing over franchise/sequel rights)

Allan Moore irks me. I love his writing but that guy is a pompous jerk. V for Vendetta was actually a good movie and I have the graphic novel and they are not too much different. Depending on who you ask, The League of Extraordinary Gentleman was good too. I hope The Watchmen is good though because the graphic novel was awesome. Rorschach rocks!

I've liked the bulk of Moore's work, but he's hopelessly full of himself. The guy is writing comic books. Comic. Books. While I'm totally down with comics being considered "literature" (except when the word is used as a frantically desperate label to explain a fun, but geeky, little hobby), Moore has always behaved like he's Very Special, constantly getting into snits with DC Comics over this or that. Sometimes, it's been vaguely justified, but still...it's comics. Dude needs to relax. He has no idea how lucky he's been and how much he owes DC for giving him the opportunities he's had. (And if he does have an idea, he's been an ungrateful prat.)

Meanwhile, 20th Century Fox -- not Alan Moore, who has disassociated himself from the film -- is trying to stop/delay the release of Watchmen. Fox claims Warner Bros. (DC Comics' parent company, by the way) is guilty of copyright infringement. Allegedly, Fox had the movie rights and quietly sat back while Warner Bros. invested millions into the film. Now that it's shot, Fox wants their fair share. Legally, I suppose they're in the right. But that doesn't mean they're not cocks.

The trial is slated for January 20th, and the film is due to be released on March 6th. But don't hold your breath.

In other news, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was a perfectly fine rental. So fine, in fact, that I bought the DVD after renting it. Suck that, Alan Moore.

For the record, I didn't mind LOEG. I'd read the reviews and saw that for the most part it was shit on, but I didn't see any problem with it.

The Warner Bros. site has a bunch of trailers. So uh Ozymandias doesn't age? I also remember Nite Owl II being less in-shape in the comic. This is gonna be another one of those "Everybody is young and badass and dresses in dark muted colors" films?

If I hear another fucking juvenile homophobic complaint regarding Dr. Manhattan's nudity I'm gonna go full-on feminazi. The dude is naked, he has a penis. Big fucking deal. If Dr. M were a naked woman I guarantee no-one would have a problem.

WHAT???!!!?!! There's a naked dude in it, with his junk on full display? OMG! I'd better not go see it, then. I don't want to walk out of there with a taste for penis.

Yeah, there's loads of blue dong in the film. You'll almost be surprised there isn't blue dong behind the credits as they roll.

Incidentally, Kevin Smith loved it (the film, not the blue dong), and as one of the biggest comic book geeks in film that I'm aware of, that can't be a bad recomendation.
