Metallica.
Death Magnetic.
I've broken the poll into 3 sections...because that's just the kind of band Metallica is.
Check out their fantastically ludicrous video discussing the album title with their management army. These guys are Metalocalypse without a sense of humor. Lars tries to spell 'magnetic' at about the 1:30 mark. Lars pontificates: "The deeper you dig, the less that makes sense. I-- I-- I-- I hear that."
Hetfield reacting to someone talking about the cadence of the title: "Cadence is good."
I also love that Lars is sitting at one of the heads of the table and the bassist doesn't even get a seat.
Watch them debate ProTools edits here if you wish to lose whatever remaining shred of respect you may have had for these former metal gods.
I'll wait to vote until I've heard the new album. It's supposed to be better than St. Anger, but I watched a squirrel get run over the other day and that sounded better than St. Anger too. (Interestingly, a dude in Steve Albini's Electrical Audio forum made a remix and cut out all the extraneous garbage--presumably Kirk Hammett's solos.)

Death Magnetic...crap. Yeah, it's faster than their recent crap albums, but it's still crap. I can't tell you how disappointed I am. Other than "Broken, Beat and Scarred," there are no memorable tracks. And BBS is not exactly a classic. It's not as crappy as the other tracks. It's just okay. "My Apocalypse" starts off promising, but settles into paint by numbers thrash metal. The band that made Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets no longer exists. Every single song on this album is too long. They don't have any of the interesting compositional things they did in their more progressive metal days.
Here's the best way I can explain Death Magnetic: It sounds like a Metallica tribute band.
Whatever. I'll listen to Mastodon instead.
