The Clone Wars is being released on 8.15.08. For those of you not in the know, it's an animated film that introduces an animated series on Cartoon Network.
What can I say...
I'm a Star Wars nerd and therefore am obligated to be excited. Like my friend Mr. J..... said, "...malfouka I'm right there with you... More Star Wars is a good thing!"
My main problem is that Genndy Tartakovsky is not doing the animation.

Oh yeah, I keep forgetting about this.
Am I going to watch the first few episodes? Sure. Could be good; could suck. I'm not expecting much anymore.
I have the feeling it'll be more Lucas revisionism. I gotta identify with a clone trooper now as one of the main characters? Clone troopers all of a sudden express their individuality with haircuts and uniform decorations? Whatever. This flies in the face of everything we know about stormtroopers...and all the exposition in Attack of the Clones. So again, whatever.

Agreed.
I want to see it because it's Star Wars, but...

Much as I love Star Wars and animation in general... now I've seen the ads, and I don't think I'm going to bother with it. This may be partially because I went and re-watched Episodes I-III recently (not helping matters, the digital effects have started to look like cheesy video game graphics).
From the short snips, it seems that LucasFilm has found a way to make characters to appear even more wooden than Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman did. Its like someone took Thunderbirds CGI.
The rug in Disney's Aladdin had more expression.
The sky over the port was the color of television tuned to a dead channel.

That rug was robbed of an Oscar. Robbed, I tells ya!
And you're right about the effects not holding up. My god.
The fact that it's about the kidnapping of Jabba the Hutt's cutesy-wutsey-Weeble-Wobble-slug son frightens me. This looks like a film for 6-year-olds.
On the other hand, I guess I'm wrong for expecting something that might not be for 6-year-olds. I watched the Tartakovsky series recently. That wasn't too bad. A little too light on dialog and character development, but still had some really good stuff. Thought the fight between Anakin and the evil chick was really well done.
And, hey, who can't wait until Episodes I-III are re-released with more footage of Clone Wars characters showed into the scenes with a digital ILM crowbar?

The Tartakovsky series was very nicely animated (I am a huge fan of GT in general) but the individual episodes were too short for me to really get involved. However, the associated toys were 100% great!
I agree, the new film will most likely be awful but after age 35, what else does one have to look forward to?
PS. "...the evil chick[emphasis mine]..."?

Saw the film. It's very, very cool. The animation is excellent---almost claymation-esque.

Saw it (finally). About a half hour in, while the Netflix dvd was alternately skipping and freezing, I realized I didn't care. I made it through the film, but can't say I thought there was anything memorable about it. Like all the prequels, I found this forgettable.
Crap. This was a pale nothing next to the Tartakovsky series.
Also: Lucas has been doing this weird thing with Clone Trooper battle scenes. He's trying to shoot it realistically. Low angles. Handheld camera. And you get caught up a little, like, 'okay, I can get into this.' And then he clangs two opposing forces in a wide city street. Troops give up high ground in favor of standing in the street with no cover. It's a strange juxtaposition of realism and stupidity.
I added a crap or not crap poll.

The Movie was cool... for what it was. Which was a lead in to the series on Cartoon Network. Of course, the series grew on me over the course of the first season. When taken as a whole, the movie plus series, it by far the best Post-Original Trilogy work yet. And honestly, it is the first thing that makes me care about Anakin at all. The Second Trilogy (prequel) movies left me wondering why anyone tolerated Anakin at all.
The second season start soon... and now with more bounty hunters!
