Mafia versus Townspeople versus Serial Killer.

(I'm going to apologize in advance for this lame cookie cutter story. Perhaps you've seen my self-pitying time thread? Boo f-ing hoo.)

There is trouble afoot in Misfitopia. The mob is moving in on the once peaceful town. The law is no where to be found (having been blown up by troubled Vietnam vet John Rambo some weeks prior). As if lynching the bad guys isn't enough for the Townspeople, one of their own has snapped under the pressure and is wantonly slaughtering the populace. Is society too sick to survive? It's Town vs Mob vs Serial Killer. Happy hunting.

The roles are:
2 mafia
1 serial killer
the rest are Townspeople

The players are:

Then she posts asking who is playing, when the list is clearly posted in the opening post of the day.

I was just thinking about the game this afternoon, and thought I'd share:

There are 6 players - 2 mafia, 1 sk, 3 townies.
The Mafia wants to outnumber the town. That means they've got to hope that we mislynch a townie and the SK gets a townie. If both mobsters survive the night, they win.

The Serial Killer wants to outlive everyone. His/her only shot is to make sure at least one mobster dies, either by lynching or killing. If a townie is lynched today, and the SK isn't night-killed and night-kills a townie, the mafia wins.

In other words, if we lynch a villager today, there's a very good chance that it's game over.

That being said, I'm a villager. Lynch me and there's a very good chance that we lose.

I hate first-day voting, there's nothing to go on but hunch and air.

I think Chad is the serial killer. I have no reason to think this but it's there.

Correct me if I'm wrong but we're going for either the Mafia or the serial killer, right?

Mmmm and in case YOU forgot, I'm doing this during the day while I'm at work. I don't have the time to peruse everything other than the title and possibly the first three sentences (sorry Dave but I have to sneak at work).

So scuse me for not having the time to read everything.

I don't like the way you jumped all over me for no apparent reason other than I seemed angry, because I hate half assed assumptions about me when I've already said what I'm feeling. You say you're a villager, but your misplaced aggression leads me to believe you're either the serial killer or mafia.

Read WK's post above yours. D1 votes are a crap shoot. We have to grasp at straws. Your reason for voting me is just as sound as my reason for voting you. Also, both of our reasons for voting each other are shit. But since it's D1, we've got nothing better to go on.

I'm not being aggressive, merely explaining my reasons for voting you. Would you rather I simply voted you and didn't explain why? Doing that doesn't help the town, and makes me look like Mafia, especially if you come back village. Basing my vote on something, no matter how tenuous, is better than not explaining why.

Also, this is a game, there's nothing personal here, so there's no reason to get pissed off about anything.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I'm not pissed off and I'm not taking it personally.

All I stated was your aggression made you look more mafia or the serial killer than villager.

If anything, I am disappointed that you would think that I was pissed off because after this many years, you should have some idea on how I operate by now.

I PMed Bacon as a reminder. If Bacon breaks the tie, there will be a lynch and we'll start Day 2. Otherwise, you have until 10pm EST to break the tie without him. When there are six or fewer players, we need a simple majority.

I forgot to set a protocol for breaking ties at the beginning of the game, so if no one objects, let's set it now: if still a tie at 10pm, both are lynched.

Well now losing 2 villa's would not do any good and in fact wold lose the village the game but it would be a fight between the mob and the SK for final victory. I think that I may have to

just until Bacon shows up (If he does that is). Unless WK you will change your vote to either mono or Deb. Losing two villa's is suicide

Dave not trying to be a fly in the ointment here but lynching two players is kinda on the harsh side IMHO.

I've read elsewhere that the person to reach the most votes 1st is the person that is out.
(A site I frequent called TABSOnline.net). I think this is a little fairer to the village/players and offer it up as an alternative.

I agree with norse about the results of a tie vote.

If the two players who are tied are townies, the only players with a chance in hell of winning are the mafia and the SK.
Scenario 1, after N1:

T1 - lynched
T2 - lynched
T3 - either NKd or survives to D2
M1 - serial killed
M2 - survives to D2
SK - either NKd or survives to D2

So D2 we either have 1 mafia vs. 1 townie, which means mafia wins, or we have 1 mafia vs. 1 serial killer, which means whoever votes first wins.

Scenario 2, after N1:

T1 - lynched
T2 - lynched
T3 - serial killed and NKd
M1 - survives to D2
M2 - survives to D2
SK - survives to D2

Here, the mafia wins, because they know that the only remaining player is not a mobster.

Scenario 3, after N1:

T1 - lynched
T2 - lynched
T3 - survives to D2
M1 - serial killed
M2 - survives to D2
SK - NKd

Here, whoever casts the first vote wins.

Two of the scenarios end up being a who votes first contest. The other ends up guaranteeing a mafia win. None of them are a good way to run a game, in my opinion.

If we go with the first to the vote total theory, the village has a chance. There's a chance, albeit a slight one, that the Serial Killer will take out a mobster, and the mobsters will take out the Serial Killer. That leaves 2 townies and a mobster on D2.

So my vote is to have the first person to reach the tie total be lynched, even if that person is me.

EDIT:

Another alternative is to have the person to be lynched chosen randomly, in case of a tie. I'd be cool with that, too.
