Does anyone actually subscribe to RSS feeds? It kinda works like this: you "subscribe" (not for a fee, you just plug the RSS link into a feed reader), when one of the subscribed blogs updates their site, you can read all the new stuff from all your subscriptions in one place (rather than browsing all over to site after site).

I have this set up for my site(s) and even for this forum, but I don't use it to read other people's sites at all. I seems like technology for technology's sake, and I can't really justify its existence. Anybody feel differently?

I subscribe to a lot of sites, but seeing as it's kind of my job to keep up to date with people's blogs, etc it makes more sense for me than jumping around the place.

I haven't put you or BA on an RSS feed as I'm in both places at least 5 times a day anyway so it seemed pointless.

I don't mean to sound like I'm asking for subscribers. I'm just curious to know if people actually use this stuff (I'm going to put a similar poll up in the BA forums too). I only include those links on my sites to be a "good webmaster."

Oh no no I got that. It's just some places don't update a lot (like me heh) so it comes in handy that way. I'm reading dozens of blogs a day and it makes more sense for me to read it all at one place than jump everywhere, especially with my shitty connection speeds.

When I said I didn't do this site or BA, it's because it doesn't really need an RSS feed, other than to be a good webmaster, as there is new content all the time.

I use RSS to read a-[e]'s blog at work, since WebSense blocks it if I try to go to it directly.

Otherwise, no, I don't use RSS feeds.
No.

Count me in the what the hell is RSS group.

I have it listed because it's always there with Movable Type. I've read up on a bit but I still don't quite understand how it works.

I don't subscribe to anything, maybe I should try it and see if it works.

Does it really make a difference with readership?

Yes.

RSS makes some people very happy.

Especially podcast listeners. The RSS feed will automatically fetch the latest mp3s and download them for you.

I use an RSS feed but I'm still not 100% sure why. Updating that XML document and loading it every time I update my site is a pain in the ass. As far subscribing to RSS feeds I did set up a Bloglines account at one point. I'm one of the 5 Maximum Awesome subscribers there. I also subscribed to my own site but only to see if it works. But I never check that shit. I can just, like, go to the sites and stuff if I want to see if they've been updated.

I don't mind surfing from site to site. I think I have RSS set up for miy blog, but I do not subscribe to any, or even if any subscribe to mine. How would I check?
Shut your face. If I wanted to hear from an asshole, I'd fart.

I use RSS alot.

I like to do a quick read of the many blogs I read at work.

It is much better for me to use Bloglines to check them, than to surf from site to site to see if there is anything to read.

Plus many of those sites are blocked by our firewall.

And Mango is right RSS feeds fro podcasts rock, have the MP3s delivered to me automatically is great.

Ok, yours and Mango's explanations made sense. I'm giving it a shot with bloglines right now and then I'll try it with SBR and podcast or something.

There's so much I have yet to learn or even begin to comprehend.

Adam, do you code xml manually?

I've been using FeedSpring. It's a lot easier to update especially now that they've released the latest version.

If anyone uses a different xml editor, let me know. Very curious.
