I do a lot of surfing to look for ideas on how to improve my own site(s). In those travels, I see a lot of hyperbole about such-and-such site becoming THE number 1 authoritative site for whatever.

Today I found this poor guy. Maybe the site isn't "live" yet. I found the following snippet of awww-that's-sad. It reads: "we hope to be the largest online website-based community in the world."

C'mon now. That's a tall order. How about being the largest community in your zip code first? You see this in blogging, forums, myspace, you name it. Part of me feels sorry for these lost souls. But mostly I just feel scorn and derision. I voted derision.

I say they don't even deserve my notice. I really don't care what other people are doing on the internet, as long as they're not invading my space. Except of course child pornographers etc. They should have a rope tied around their balls and be dragged around the town square by galloping horses.

Newgrounds.com never wanted to be the largest flash hosting site the world.

Wikipedia never wanted to become the largest online encyclopedia.
