I like games. I like combat games. I like beer. I don't, however, like games that eat up my precious time and require that I be online 24/7 in order to be borderline competitive. There are many browser-based games that require players to sit and click on turn after mindless turn. I don't have the time or inclination for that. I want a game that doesn't suck all my time, doesn't take me forever to build up again after a loss, but has a level of persistence rather than constant resetting. I want my own game. So I designed one. That's the Mk.IV Project (see below).
Operation Funtime consists of several parts. The first is a fully integrated development of Misfitopia (Mark IV). The rest are stand-alone games that will reside here.
Mk.IV Project - This is the biggie. It is a massive expansion to the forum environment. It is a persistent, massively multiplayer game that incorporates a balance of diplomacy, combat and economics. Despite the clickable, quantitative elements, social interaction will be the foundation of the game. Certain game mechanics will be tied to posting. (Closed source software.)
SPQR Project - As Rome descends into anarchy and barbarism, you and fellow Senators marshal forces to claim the throne. Game will reset every 15 days or so. (Closed source software.)
Toy Project - RPG incorporating 80s toys and characters. (Open source software.)
Space Project - Trade resources and colonize planets to build fleet and dominate the galaxy. Game will reset every 45 days or so. (Open source software.)
I'm going to maintain one or more threads concerning Operation Funtime to (1) generate ideas and discussion, (2) organize and track my thoughts during the coding process, and possibly (3) encourage programmers and graphic artists to get involved, no matter how big or small their potential contribution.
Programmers and graphic artists who are interested in contributing to the project should click that link to email me or just post somewhere in the forum.
