Help Needed and I don't know how to ask. Someone changed the start-up settings on our laptop. In the process we have noticed a couple of features we like are now missing. It's a Dell by the way if that helps.
One: There is a blue "Fn" button that we could push to change the volume on the computer when the page up or page down buttons were pushed simultaneously. That button doesn't seem to have a function now. Any ideas?
Two: On the mousepad there is a vertical and a horizontal strip on the right and bottom sides of the pad. These could be used to scroll up or down (or right or left) on the page quickly. These seem to be deactivated.
I tried to find out what these were through the computer but didn't have any luck. I am afraid to change anything I won't know how to fix. Any help would be welcome and I am also ready for any namecalling regarding my ignorance with any of this. Thanks.

It sounds like your friend has disabled/uninstalled a lot of programs because he thought they didn't do anything...

Not having a Dell laptop handy, I can't check, but they'll use either an Alps or Synaptics touchpad. If you open up the Windows Control panel and click on "Switch to Classic View", then click on the mouse icon. There should be a lot of options there for enabling and disabling various functions of the trackpad, like the scrolling and such.

If it doesn't seem to have anything touchpad specific, or if tinkering with the settings isn't helping, its time to reinstall the drivers. http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/...;l=en&s=gen

From memory, I think the Fn button functionality is provided by the Dell QuickSet utility. It's also available for download from the support site.

Hope it helps.

HEY! THANK YOU very MUCH!
I ended up going back to the "normal" start up mode. I didn't think they programs that were running were causing any problems on the computer in the first place. Speed was not an issue, so I am not sure why the start-up got messed with in the first place. In the future when someone wants to "fix" the computer....I will say NO.
THanks for you help! Much appreciated.
But I was going to Tashi Station to pick up some power converters.

So here is my dilemma, I made an animated gif in Imageready. No biggie, I've made several of these. When I go to save it, I go file>save optimized as - but the only options I have are jpg and html, no gif.

Anyone handy with this kinda stuff? Any help is appreciated. I am completely bewildered and have no clue what I did wrong.

Finally, a question I can answer (because it's more photoshoppy than techie).

Go to window=>optimize. Under settings, it will say gif, jpeg, whatever. It probably says jpeg for you. Change it to gif. Now try to 'save optimized' again.

I think saving the image as a gif first in photoshop then going back to imageready and "save optimized as" and rewriting the gif does the same thing.

Myspace question. I have a Film Account. When I go to upload a video I get taken to an error screen. This only happens when I try to do it from THIS computer. I had my girlfriend log on and upload a video from work and it went through without a single problem

This has to be because of some kind of setting on my computer right? Anyone?

Tech geek, do you know how to connect my iPhone to my Lotus Notes server? I was told it can't be done. I've been told lots of things by my IT guy, but I've come to the conclusion that he's a douche.

I remember a kerfuffle at a keynote when Apple announced support for everything but lotus notes. If your Domino server supports SMTP/POP/IMAP and is published to the outside world, it should be a snap.

Otherwise... You're up the creek. Barbed wire canoe. No paddle.

Anyone know how I can convert an MKV file into a format that can be burned to a DVD?

I've just recently bought a new computer and it has little slots in the front for camera memory cards. It came with the tower so it's not like I added this shit on and I have four drives (F, G, H, & I) in the My Computer bit, so I'm assuming the computer recognises that the drives are there.

I went to put my memory card in the appropriate slot and a little green light comes on to say that something's in there, but nothing comes up to proceed further with actually extracting the photos off the card.

I have installed the software for the camera package that I'm using (Kodak) and when I go into there, thinking i can be a bit sneaky and get the photos uploaded from that way, it says there is nothing in the drive but i bloody well know there is.

What am I doing wrong, or what haven't I done?

PS: Yes, there are photos on the memory card, it's not blank.
