On March 31, 2012, Bungie Studios officially relinquished control and operation of the Halo franchise to 343 Industries. Bungie has recorded stats for every single Halo game played over Xbox Live since September 9, 2004, and has put a final report. All the stats I'm listing are a combined total for H2, H3, H3:ODST, and Reach. Here's some the numbers ...

  • Total Halo matchmaking games played online:
    • 20,880,250,123
  • Total Halo playtime in minutes:
    • 123,611,766,794
  • Total kills in matchmaking:
    • 136,128,511,043
  • Total Halo playtime in hours:
    • 2,060,196,113
  • Total medals earned:
    • 79,027,866,182
  • Total Halo playtime in days:
    • 85,851,504
  • Total Halo playtime in years:
    • 235,182

Full stat report here.

I've logged more hours than I'd care to admit pulling flags, planting bombs, and getting embarrassed by 14 year olds. Looking forward, 343 is at the helm now and Halo 4 will be the first game in the series not made by Bungie. As an overly obsessed Halo fan, I have concerns about the future of the franchise. H4 has high expectations to meet and 343 Industries has enormous shoes to fill.

If the laws of physics no longer apply in the future, God help you.
