I never thought the Mets collapse of 2007 would be eclipsed so soon. The Red Sox were 9 games up in the wild card race on Sept. 1. The Braves were 8.5 up. Red Sox went 7-20. Both teams missed the playoffs on the last day of the season.
In a way, the Mets implosion is worse because it happened so much later in September than the Red Sox and Braves. On the other hand, 2 games more over a longer September period is a scorching meltdown.
And...um...I'm being distracted by something much more interesting than baseball, so I'm going to post this thread and forget it.
