After getting Eccleston out of the way, things can only go up. They do: Tennant is pretty brilliant.
The beauty of the shorter British TV seasons is that it forces the shows to hit their stride early and often. I have to admit feeling a little unnerved by the Rose/Jackie/Micky domestic crap at the start of Christmas Invasion, because it's such a huge contrast to when Tennant is on screen. He completely takes over. Really enjoyed The Girl in the Fireplace and the Impossible Planet/Satan/Black Hole two-parter. Micky's arc was solid, if quick (although I guess that's preferable to dragging it out). All that's left is the two-part finale I hope to get to sometime this week.
Another note: having seen a couple of eps on BBC America, I feel cheated after watching the full DVD versions. BBC America cuts so much meat out of some of these. Christmas Invasion, for example, was almost like a new episode when watching the full version.

Because I'd accidentally watched the end of Season 4 prior to the end of Season 2, I had some vague, confused understanding about what happened to Rose. In my mixed up version, I understood that Rose was trapped on some desolate planet in a parallel universe and that this planet was nothing more than a beach. I thought that was pretty depressing. The real version is still depressing, but...just...not as bleak. Because...you know...she has a life and all. Plus her dad...sorta.
Still a good ending with Rose.
