Super Bowl XLV. Steelers vs. Packers.

I don't have any mind-blowing analysis. I think the Packers secondary is better. I think the Packers offense is almost wholly dependent on Rogers and if he has an off day they're in trouble. But that's true of most teams. Oddly, Roethlisberger can have a crappy day but he can complete the right pass at the right time. I don't love either team's running game. I think it's a good match up overall. Should be a good game. Now the only question is can I convince enough people to start the game an hour later to skip through the half-time show on dvr.

I'm starting to get sick of all the Super Bowl crap going on in this town.

One thing I find hilarious is that a company has erected a tent in the Cotton Bowl and is hosting parties in it. They scheduled parties for Thursday, Friday & Saturday. If you followed that link, you'd have noticed that they only mention parties on Friday & Saturday. That's because they canceled the Thursday party that was supposed to be LBGT themed with The Village People, Lady Bunny & Cazwell. Why'd they cancel it, you ask? Because 4 days before the event they'd only sold 13 tickets.

I've got to go to bed. I have to get up early to make tabs for some NFL thing tomorrow.

If you told me Driver, Woodson, Shields and Collins would be injured in the first half and that Driver and Woodson would not return, there's no way I would think the Packers would win.

The game reminded me a lot of the Steelers/Ravens game. Ravens up big; Steelers come back in the second half. Unlike the Ravens, the Packers didn't turn the ball over (and over, and over).

Typical Pakcers: score in bursts then the offense goes into punting mode. Rooting for the Packers, it was a decent enough game. I can't imagine it was much fun for Steelers fans until the fourth quarter.

I realize the score dictated the Steelers' play-calling, but it seemed like they never got into their running game at all. Another weird stat: Packers rushed only 11 times (not counting Rodgers' two rushes). I read something today that I hadn't thought about at all: Rodgers won the Super Bowl MVP; Favre didn't (Desmond Howard of all people).

Enjoy the championship, monogodo.

Also, suck it, Favre.

Here's another Favre/Rodgers comparison I thought of today:

Both lead their teams to Super Bowl victories in their 6th year in the league, but Favre was a starter 4 games into his 2nd season, while Rodgers had to wait until his 4th year to start. So as starters, Favre took almost 5 years to win his first SB, & Rodgers took only 3.

I loved the first half, up until the Steelers scored that TD towards the end of the half. The third quarter was rather depressing to me. I was reminded of my brother's assessment of the Packers in the '09 season: they randomly select a quarter to choose 11 fans from the stands to suit up and replace them. It looked like that's what happened in the 3rd quarter.

Just looked over the stats on NFL.com. Statistically, it looked like the Packers lost.

Of course, the real reason the Packers won was because I wore my Packers polo shirt all day & ate Johnsonville Summer Sausage (from Sheboygan Falls, WI) and cheese from Weyauwega, WI during the game. So it was all me.

Can you work that 'all me' magic on the Jets next year? I only ask because you've seen two Super Bowl victories in your lifetime and I'm still looking for my first. Not bitter or anything. Not bitter at all! Arrrrrgh!

The Jets won Super Bowl III, in 1968, 48 days before I was born. Sorry I couldn't help out there.

I was pulling for a Packers/Jets Super Bowl this year, but alas, 'twas not to be.

Maybe I need some Jets paraphernalia and traditional NY/NJ foodstuffs to help them on their way.

Also, the Packers sent the Jets Brett Favre 3 years ago, what more help do you want?

I used to be bummed that no one in the sports world ever wanted to talk about the Jets. Now they are a seamy gossip pit. A seamy gossip pit that wins football games, but still.

If you are truly offering your powers, I shall be selfish. Lottery for me > Jets. My wallet will thank you.
