It wasn't bad but it did kinda let me down. You have the biggest action film cast of all time with no one to pick up the slack of actually acting. Worth the $7. Not crap but leaves you wanting more.

Have to agree with Chad on this one. It's a very 80s action movie in many ways. The digital blood and gore plus the jumbled editing/directing are the two things that let you know it's not a 25-year-old film. Plus the ancient actors.
Given the cast and given that this movie prevented a new Rambo from being made, I expected more. I actually think the sequel will be better. More 80s/90s action stars are on board. More stupid explosions. Someone like John McTiernan (or at least McTiernan in his heyday) should direct. Or someone with ensemble cast experience. And who can also shoot action.
The direction in Expendables was very frustrating. Remember The Dirty Dozen when they infiltrate the villa/castle? You know where everyone is at all times. You know how the success of one character relates to the success of the mission as a whole. It's really well done. In the Expendables, when they infiltrate the villa/castle, you have no idea who is where doing what. We get a montage of random acts--snap shots of the team members running through the building planting explosives and killing people. Incoherent filmmaking.
Nevertheless, I have a strange confidence for Expendables 2. Van Damme, possibly Chuck Norris. They need Mr. T, Carl Weathers, Hulk Hogan and Billy Dee Williams. Need them.
