Dr. Strange: crap or not crap? I have that big tpb of the early Dr. Strange comics that I find alternately fun and boring. I would never seek out any recent Dr. Strange stuff because he strikes me more as a supporting character rather than interesting enough to carry his own weight.

The cartoon movie hits all the "origin of" events, but also compresses them in a pat 90 minutes. It's forgivable, but also what would they save them for? There's not going to be a Dr. Strange 2 in this lifetime.

The quality, like all these new(-ish) Marvel cartoons, is good, but the design in this one had a very...almost Dragonball Z flair to it. Coupled with the mystical mumbo-jumbo dialog and the likeness is a bit much.

The old comics were so other-worldly but this story grounded everything on Earth. I was hoping for more of a Green Lantern approach to this one. Another thing it suffers from is the "old mystic in Tibet" trope which has become a brutal cliche by now.

Not bad. Watchable, but I wouldn't recommend it, especially considering how much better the other Marvel cartoon flicks were. Crap for me.
