G.I. Joe Resolute. Took me too long to get around to this thing.
As Frank mentioned in another thread, it's pretty good. The violence is realistic enough. Cobra has a very Bond-villain feel. Duke is not a tool. Even though I liked the G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra movie for what it was, I liked Resolute a little better.
The sound mix (which, I know, is a bizarre thing to comment on) is awesome. I have a crappy system but still noticed it. To clarify that, my super keen home theatre (which you must over-pronounce so that 'theatre' has three syllables) is the following: old DVD player connected to old CRT TV with the TV's built-in Crap-HX speakers. I know, I know, you're jealous. It could cost you as much as $20 and a watchful eye on Craigslist to get the same system. And still the sound in G.I. Joe Resolute rocked and rocked hard.
Complaints? Sure, I have some.
1. The Storm Shadow-Snake Eyes backstory was changed for the worse. Even more of a sin? It had no place in this story, no relation to anything in the big picture. It just felt like they wanted to animate a ninja battle...with samurai swords.
2. There's still the uber-Ninja-magic abilities that doomed the old comic book. You'd think that with the uber-ninja meme being done to death that a smart storytelling move would be to scale it back to something inline with real life.
3. Somewhere in the beginning of the second act we get bogged down in techno-babble in which we have scene after scene of Joes babbling on the USS Flagg. I'd rather have seen more of a soldierly bonding type scene in the field.
4. Frickin Tunnel Rat? Seriously? Of all the Joes to spotlight...
Overall, very enjoyable. Not crap.
G.I. Joe Resolute: crap or not crap?
