A CONVERSATION BETWEEN SIG AND IKE ABOUT REACH

4-24-10

SIG - Josh and I just spent the better part of this evening playing the Beta. Now, I know each and everyone of you well enough to give you the clear insight on this game. If you trust me, I strongly recommend not downloading the beta. I know, I know. You need to learn for yourself. I understand. But let me spare you the time. 4 games Josh and I both realized what this game was. This is Bungie's pride and joy. This is Bungie.

I made a mistake long ago thinking I knew what Bungie was about. I thought many advanced and intellectual points. I thought I knew what Bungie was, but I was way off. Turn out we are the fringe group the one that found a better game in the one made. That game was not the one intended.

Everything we hate is Reach. Everything. No fucking lie. Cheap kills, random frags, power ups, weapons that don’t work, random spawns, overpowered AR, people not dieing when their supposed to, and all the little shit we bitch about is multiplied in this piece of shit that is Bungie.

We are fucked. This game is trash, and I know you are all thinking "no this is just Sig being Sig, jaded and pissy" I wish to God more than anyone of you that this was true. But there is nothing in this game that lives up to any of our expectations. This game is a prequel to H3 in everyway. It looks like an updated h2, with a hit scan system that is a joke. The reticule is next to invisible with the pistol, and any chance of firing at a mildly quick pace scribbles your view all over the screen. Fuck the DMR, and the needle rifle, both worthless. The health system is pointless because there is one health pack for the two maps. There are no options for the load outs, except pick your power up.

We all loved the campers, and the where the hell did you come from deaths. Get use to it. Fucking camo last forever, but its actually worthless when you need it to work. Sword base may be the worst map ever. Elongation makes my dick so much harder than sword base.

Bungie took everything we hated about H3 and made it a game. A pointless overpowered frag game. They just feed all the mindless muling fan boys.

Yes, I already got in my first argument with some kid who said the game had nothing to do with halo 3, and "you’re not even a Spartan" "this game is fun, enjoy it" At that point I just gave up. Where it took about 24 months to kill my h3 spirit, it only took about 2 hours to bring it back. Well done Bungie, I’m writing a letter to Microsoft thanking them for taking this series away from you.

IKE - At the same time, this is a Beta. Not finished. Little things, especially ones that seem to be big complaints, such as reticules being too faint, are more than likely going to be fixed. I also think the Spartan movement speed is going to be increased, because that also seems to be something a lot of people are complaining about. The weapons are a lot harder to use, save for maybe the AR, because of bloom. The health system is more akin to H: CE, and so is a lot of game mechanics.

Also remember, at this stage, its friends and family. This means a whole hell of a lot of terrible kids. The people who earnestly couldn't get above strike commander in H3.

Obviously, having not played it, I can't make a good argument stating how good it is. For all I know, it could really be terrible. But what I can say is that it's a completely different game. It's not supposed to improve on H3's game play; it's supposed to be entirely different. If you thought it was going to be H3.5, well you got a nasty surprise. I think a lot of your complaints stem from not wanting to get used to a brand new game. I highly doubt you can go in expecting to play like you do in H3 and excelling. Though, I have a hunch that if you go play some H: CE extensively, you'll be a lot better prepared.

SIG - Fucking Ike, You are a goddamn fan boy. Stop sucking Bungie's Dick. I am fully aware that there is an adjustment period, but I’m not a fucking cocksucking blind kid that accepts a game as awesome because it’s made by Bungie.

When your fucking weapons don’t work in a first person shooter, and individual players are averaging 8 frag kills a game, then there is an issue. Yes Ike I know it’s early on, Yes I know what beta means. Yes I played the fucking game. Yes its shit.

Here Ike riddle me this. Why to fix the inconsistencies with the BR did they make a new weapon and create a reticule system that recreates those inconsistencies?

I said long ago the days of strafing and BR battles are dead. This game is based solely on powerups. It’s a frustrating change from what you’re use to. Think about every time you’ve been killed by some crouching camo camper, think about every battle you knew you had the one up on and the guy throws a bubble, think of every BR shot your fired that you know should of killed him, and when it all boils down there is always some piss ant spraying his fucking AR at you killing you instantly.

What is the point of the health system when there are no fucking health packs? Or when the melee, OH FUCK the melee, just wait... get that halo 3 mentality out of your head now, no beat down 1 shot or frag 1 shot or any fucking 1 shot hell you cant even tell when someone’s weak. And there isn’t a chance in hell with the DMR or the Pistol to out gun 2 people charging you.

You’re right Ike, I was expecting a game that was superior to h3, a game that took good ideas and made them better.

You’re right 3 years of H3 should not prepare me for Reach. I should have to go pull out a fugly looking game to get use to a busted ass health system. And shit! 3 years of learning to shoot with a BR should have no, none whatsoever, eased the transition to shooting a DMR.

You know Ike, maybe you’re fucking right. Maybe I should just close my fucking eyes and take it. Take it for what it fucking is, and say thank you Bungie. I can be just like you, and the 100 others I played with; opinionless, devoutly faithful Bungie followers.

This is the outcome of the Bungie Stockholm Syndrome.

IKE - Cuz I'm the one constantly saying how good H3 actually is and blah blah blah right? Nope.

All you're doing is complaining about things that are easily fixed, saved for the activities of the players (ie camping, nade spam). No health packs? Could change easily? Melee? Works just like it's supposed to, from what I've seen. One hit only affects the shields; the other is to the body once the shields are out.

Reticule bloom is in just about every other modern FPS. Tired of "randomness?" Shoot slower. It's a trade off. You can shoot super fast, and lose accuracy, or you can actually shoot slower and get some accuracy. It's only random if you try and use it the way it wasn't intended to be.

You came into the Beta expecting Halo 3, except with all its problems fixed. H2->H3, all they did was improve some things and add stuff in. That's pretty much what you expected. This isn't that, this isn't a step straight forward. It's lateral movement. They made a completely different game, one that doesn't feel dated. Let's face it; Halo has been pretty much the same since H2. That’s just about 6 years of BR battles at this point. It felt old. If Bungie took Halo 3, simply improved some things here and there, added some other random stuff, and then shipped it, it would be absolute shit. The Halo that Bungie has been using for the past 6 years does not stand up to modern FPS. Far from genre-defining, as it once was, it's little more than a haven for fan boys and trolls.

SIG -I gave a very truthful review. It wasn’t a bitch session until I decided to bust Ike’s balls. I pointed out that I am fully aware how each of us plays and after 2 years I think I can make an accurate judgment call to each of our interests. Listen I don’t speak for anyone of you individually and I can’t wait to read your assessments, but mine was mine.

As much as you all may dislike me, and my opinions, you have to recognize that my understanding of the game is very in-depth. There are many things I dislike about H3 and of course that’s what I usually discuss. We do focus on the negatives, but discussing the positives of H3 is unnecessary. We all know the positives. The majority of the time its fun and it provides a game play that is adaptive to many styles. On and on and on...

My opinion of Reach so far has been spot on with the reviews of, Chad, Josh, My Wife, and several other people that we have come across in matchmaking. I haven’t really met anyone in Reach with a truly valid argument discussing the game positively. Everyone who has attacked me my stance, or strongly disagreed with us on Reach has provided a 13 year old name calling strategy and a big fuck you, and this game is awesome point.

Ike I understand that camping is an individual strategy, but my point was that reach now panders to that type of player. Yes, I know it’s a new game and that it’s a beta, but I suppose I'm more cynical about Bungie than you. I just feel that Bungie has tailored this game to the style of players we as a group have spent the last 3 years making fun of. I get the fact that they want to try new ideas. I respect it, but what I don’t respect is not taking into consideration what made the halo franchise playable for 6 years. You say its time for a change, but I don’t see what’s wrong with the overall basic game identify that’s put up H2, H3 numbers online for the last 6 years. If people got bored with h2 people wouldn’t have played it up until Microsoft killed it. Or H3 which for as old as it is, still has 200000+ at the same time on a Friday night.

People will flock to reach, but the integrity of the game is far from what made Halo great.
And not bitching, just observing; it’s dull, slow, frustrating, and makes you appreciate H3 a little more.

Was that english? I'm not sure I really understood what was happening.

What is Reach? What is Bungie? Is this some sort of xbox thing?

I thought he got the RRoD?

Yeah, that would explain why I didn't get the references. PS3 is the bomb.

<------ Owner of four RRoD xboxes. Don't try to peddle your xbox garbage here.

Also, I was being serious when I said I thought Chad had an RRoD problem on his xbox. (If I find the previous thread I'll post the link)

Nearly everyone who have a first generation xbox had the RRoD. It was a major design flaw, but this should come as a suprise to our generation that grew up on the NES. The problem with the 360 was the voltage, it ran to hot and actully would warp the X claps that held together the processors and the heat syncs. Ironic how the thing that made the Xbox the Xbox was the design flaw that cost millions.

I know plenty of poeple that play the PS3 and Im certain its a hell of a system, but much has changed from the days of PS2. Play styles for one have changed greatly. There havent been many games that focused on the replay factor. Love them or Hate them, this is what nintendo has always done best. As the generations grew older, people ventured into new territories, the COD series is a franchise built to suck you out of as much money as quickly as they can. Oddly enough if you stuck with H3, as million have over the last 3 years you would have only spent your original $59, buck and another $30 for maps, that is unless you are an impatient fuck like we are and fall into the advertising gimmicks of an asshole company.

I assume at this point, I can speak for Chad, others, and myself. We have put a shitload of time into this game, and we are too damn old to be training our muscles to remember a new controller configuration.

So fuck it. I enjoy shitting on badkids, and would gladly buy another xbox to do it.

I certainly did get the RRoD. Then I got another 360. Then after that, I got another one. It's a vicious cycle.
