Gmail storage refresh weirdness

Even if you don't use Gmail, you've probably seen the home page.

"Lots of space
Over 7431.553684 megabytes (and counting) of free storage."

Or something to that effect. Here's my question: If I hit refresh, for a brief second, the storage number reads 2757.381931. Then the number changes to 7431...etc.

It looks like there's a javascript OnLoad event that's changing the number. It doesn't appear to effect the actual storage of the Gmail account (that's the larger number), but I find it curious. Anyone know what's up?
